The Red Rock Inn is located near many of Red Rock’s finest recreational attributes. Just next door there is an outdoor swimming pool, a baseball diamond, a set of tennis courts, basketball nets, and the Red Rock recreation center. Inside the recreation center there is a gymnasium and bowling alley, both open to the community and visitors. In walking distance there are hiking trails (Lloyd’s Lookout), a park and board walk at the beautiful marina, and two additional school ground parks. Visitors are always welcome at the North Shore Golf Club just outside of Nipigon, which is about a 10 minute drive from the Inn. The 6,500 yard, par 36 course presents a uniquely Northern challenge. Ouimet Canyon, which is located about 30 minutes from the Red Rock Inn, is one of nature’s raw masterpieces, and is a great place to spend the day. The Red Rock Inn of Yesterday
The Red Rock Inn was designed by the architectural firm of Lawson & Little Montreal. The Neo-Georgian style and post and beam construction are unusual in Northwestern Ontario.
The Inn was built by the Lake Sulphite Pulp and Paper Company between 1937 and 1939 as a residence for mill workers and a community gathering place. The large kitchen and dining areas served as a mess hall for mill employees and construction workers, serving up to 2,000 people at each meal. The Inn, with its large ballroom, lounges and enclosed porches also served as the hub of social activities.
